Former Goldman Sachs Chief Legal Officer Kathryn Ruemmler will sit for a closed-door interview with the House Oversight Committee on Wednesday about her ties to Jeffrey Epstein.

Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi, D-Ill., who sits on the committee, and Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., wrote in a joint statement in June that the Epstein files released by the Justice Department indicate Ruemmler kept in touch with Epstein years after his conviction as a sex offender.

“According to reports, the documents reveal that Ruemmler and Epstein were in frequent contact between 2014 and 2019, just one year prior to her joining Goldman and long after Epstein’s conviction for soliciting a child for sex in 2008,” the lawmakers wrote.

The lawmakers said Ruemmler reportedly “educated Epstein on how the law differentiates between underage victims of sex crimes and adult prostitutes” and that she may have accepted tens of thousands of dollars in gifts from him, including a $9,350 Hermes handbag, $10,000 in Bergdorf Goodman gift cards, a Fendi coat valued at $4,200 and an Apple Watch.

Ruemmler resigned from her position as chief legal officer in February in the wake of public backlash regarding her relationship with Epstein, but she remains at the bank as an adviser.

While she acknowledged offering informal advice to Epstein in the past, Ruemmler has said she never represented him and has denied any wrongdoing.

“As I have said, I regret ever knowing him, and I have enormous sympathy for the victims of Epstein’s crimes,” she told The Wall Street Journal in January.

Ruemmler is one of several high-profile figures to testify about Epstein before the committee, including former President Bill Clinton, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, billionaires Bill Gates  and Les Wexner and former Attorney General Pam Bondi.

The Epstein files, which the DOJ said have been released in full in line with the Epstein Files Transparency Act, also repeatedly mention President Donald Trump. Being mentioned in the files does not indicate evidence of any wrongdoing.
