Earth Day is right around the corner, and Know Your Value is partnering with the Environmental Working Group for an event to know your environment and protect your health.
Next Wednesday, “Morning Joe” co-host and Know Your Value founder Mika Brzezinski will bring together the leading voices in the environmental and women’s health spaces for a special event in Los Angeles to amplify the critical message of supporting health, women, and our communities through science and clean environmental practices.
Brzezinski recently spoke to Peyton Spaht, founder of the Environmental Working Group High School program, a nationwide initiative empowering teens to advocate for safer products, cleaner water, and stronger environmental health protections.
Spaht, who is now a student at Dartmouth College, first founded the program in 2023, leading a cohort of peers representing four Bay Area Schools. The program has since grown to partnering with student leaders representing nearly 40 schools across the country including New York, Virginia, Texas, Illinois, and California.
Brzezinski noted during the interview that choosing products that are clean and environmentally safe can be overwhelming. She asked Spaht what one simple step viewers can today to protect their health or the environment.
“You should look at one or two products that you use every day without fault … See what’s actually in those,” said Spaht.
“It’s a common perception that using cleaner products is typically a more expensive endeavor. But it’s really it’s untrue. It’s really easy to make that quick change … So being able to make that change quick and educate yourself on it is the first step … And then talk about it … That obviously creates more of a community around the problem. And then that makes it known to people who are in power that this is something that we care about.”
