President Donald Trump will address the nation on Wednesday at 9 p.m. ET to “provide an important update on Iran,” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt announced Tuesday.
It’s the first primetime address Trump has delivered since the war began on Feb. 28. The White House has not provided any additional details about the address.
Trump told reporters at the White House on Tuesday that he expects U.S. forces in Iran to withdraw in “two or three weeks.”
MS NOW will air the president’s remarks live on TV, as well as on its YouTube channel and on MS.NOW. You can follow MS NOW’s live blog for the latest updates on the war.
Oil and gas prices have soared in recent weeks as Iran continues to tighten its grip on the Strait of Hormuz, a key oil route in the Persian Gulf. Gas prices hit a national average of $4 per gallon in the U.S. on Tuesday, the highest level since 2022. But oil prices fell briefly on Wednesday following Trump’s statements signaling a possible end to the war soon.
“All I have to do is leave Iran, and we’ll be doing that very soon, and they’ll come tumbling down,” Trump told reporters at the White House during a signing of an executive order aimed at restricting mail-in voting.
More than 4,800 people have been killed in the conflict, according to figures reviewed by MS NOW — most of them in Iran, with more than 3,400 deaths, according to the Human Rights Activists News Agency. More than 1,200 people have been killed in Lebanon, according to the country’s health ministry. And 13 U.S. service members have been killed, with hundreds more wounded.
